In June 2014 I found myself at my first Menswear fashion show, Agi & Sam SS15. Back then it was known as London Collections: Men. I loved every minute.
I have always loved fashion, in particular Menswear and being able to finally sit front row, amongst the buzz and watch the collection with the immaculately dressed people around me chattering amongst themselves was a pure joy. It was around that time that I began to realise that I needed to be amongst it all and create something from what I was seeing in my own way.
I’ve titled this Hitchhiker’s as I’ve felt like I’ve been thumbing my way through this world to date, managing to gain entry into these London shows by pure chance and pure cheek. That’s the key, always asking politely or just purely make the team at the door chuckle. I've been told I have a trusting face and have always held good comedy timing, which has served me well in most situations…some not so much.
Fast forward to February 2019 where I find myself with half an arse cheek hanging off the corner of a bench at Bobby Abley, reminding myself that I really must start that detox. Rushing outside afterwards to bag a seat by the coffee stall and sketch up what I had just seen.
I have mentioned before how personally as an Illustrator I much prefer to sketch up afterwards and not during a catwalk show. Not the best at speed sketching but mainly I like to watch and really absorb the collection, possibly my past life as a Garment Tech coming through but really because I like to soak up the show and watch reactions of others around me.
I have included a couple of illustrations from some of the shows I had the opportunity to attend this fall in London. Which I would like to thank the PR teams and Designers for allowing me to attend. Always a privilege.
London Men’s fashion is going from strength to strength and here’s to more to come! Next stop June for SS20 so please stay tuned for updates.
